RM3,000 raised by Silka Maytower and Silka Cheras Kuala Lumpur

Kuala Lumpur, 18 May 2018 – Hari Raya arrived early for 30 children of Rainbow of Love School when they were treated to an evening out and a Juadah Silka buffet dinner jointly hosted by Silka Maytower and Silka Cheras Kuala Lumpur hotels.

Upon arrival at Silka Maytower, the children and employees of the school were ushered to La Maison restaurant for dinner. Dinner was specially prepared and served by the culinary team of Silka Maytower.

The event was graced by the presence of YM Tengku Munazirah binti Tengku Abdul Samad Shah AlHaj, the Royal Patron of Human Aid Selangor. Rainbow of Love School was represented by its Vice President Badariah Abdul Hamid, and Silka Maytower and Silka Cheras by David Wong, General Manager of Silka Hotels Malaysia.

During the event, the hotels presented the school with the funds raised from its Smurfs-Beary fundraising drive held earlier on in the year. A total of RM3,000 was raised from the sale of Smurfs plush toys and teddy bear gift sets as part of the initiative.

At the end of the evening, each child received a goody bag and early “duit raya” as tokens to brighten up their evening.

The event was part of a medium-term partnership between both hotels and the school as part of the hotels’ corporate social responsibility programme. Under the programme, the hotels have jointly “adopted” the school. The hotels have collaborated on a few projects aimed at creating a more conducive environment for classes and day-to-day activities like laundry and cooking for the children.

In February 2017, the school received a pleasant surprise in the form of a brand new Samsung washing machine and groceries contributed by the hotels through their internal fundraising activities which included the sale of stuffed toy pandas and mineral water by the hotels.

Rainbow of Love is an informal school registered with the UNHCR. Its main objective is to provide Rohingya refugee children with basic education and a nurturing environment for them to spend their time. The school provides learning tools, books, stationery and free meals for the children. It runs six days a week (9am-5pm, Monday-Saturday). Rainbow of Love is located at No. 14, Jalan 4, Selayang Baru, 68100 Selangor.
