Hong Kong Arts and Culture
Every year, March is the month of art in Hong Kong. Art Basel has become the focal point for artists from the region to showcase their talents and galleries from Asia-Pacific to feature their collections. Most often you can meet with emerging artists and find your favourite pieces!
If you are just starting or considering art collection, Affordable Art Fair is the place to see and explore buying art in a friendly environment. It features a mix of local and international galleries with both established and rising artists, showcasing a wide range of contemporary paintings, original prints, photographs and sculptures.
Residents of Cheung Chau will be busy with making papier-mâché effigies of deities, preparing costumes, baking buns and building a bamboo tower – all came from a ritual over 100 years ago when the islanders fought the evil spirits with parades. The festival is a weeklong event with Taoist ceremonies and music, the Piu Sik (floating colours) parade, lion dances, drum beating and the midnight Bun Scrambling Competition.
